Weekly Update, March 16, 2012

Remedial Investigation field work commenced in late-March 2010 at the former Metropolitan Works MGP as part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)- approved Remedial Investigation Work Plan (RIWP).  The completed work included the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, test pit excavations, and indoor air and sub-slab soil vapor points to gather information required to determine the nature and extent of impacts at the former Metropolitan Works MGP.  Drilling proposed in RIWP Addendum No. 2 was completed in April 2011. Additional work to complete the Remedial Investigation, including RIWP Addendums No. 1 and No. 3, was largely completed in the fall of 2011. The Remedial Investigation field work is anticipated to be complete in early 2012.

Activities Week of March 12 – March 16:

  • Advanced one soil boring in right-of-way along Smith Street.
    Completed groundwater gauging and sampling at select on-site wells.

Future (two week look - ahead) activities:

  • Complete surveying and groundwater sampling at two off-site locations.
