Weekly Update, March 09, 2012

Remedial Investigation field work commenced in late-March 2010 at the former Metropolitan Works MGP as part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)-approved Remedial Investigation Work Plan (RIWP).  The completed work included the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, test pit excavations, and indoor air and sub-slab soil vapor points to gather information required to determine the nature and extent of impacts at the former Metropolitan Works MGP.  Drilling proposed in RIWP Addendum No. 2 was completed in April 2011. Additional work to complete the Remedial Investigation, including RIWP Addendums No. 1 and No. 3, was largely completed in the fall of 2011. The Remedial Investigation field work is anticipated to be complete in early 2012.

Activities Week of March 5 – March 9:

  • Completed geophysical survey to check for underground utilities at one off-site location where soil boring is scheduled for advancement.

Future (two week look - ahead) activities:

  • Advance one soil boring in right-of-way along Smith Street.
  • Complete surveying at two off-site locations and complete groundwater gauging and sampling at select on-site and off-site wells.
