Weekly Update, April 22, 2011

Remedial Investigation field work commenced in late-March at the former Metropolitan Works MGP as part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)- approved Remedial Investigation Work Plan (RIWP).  The work includes the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, test pit excavations, and indoor air and sub-slab soil vapor points to gather information required to determine the nature and extent of impacts at the former Metropolitan Works MGP. 

Activities Week of April 18–April 22:

  • No field activities performed.

Future (two week look - ahead) activities:

  •  Beginning the week of April 25, complete advancement and installation of two deep soil borings and monitoring wells adjacent to the Gowanus Canal.  This activity, which will be undertaken in the Shopping Center parking lot, will take place in one small area of the lot, which will be clearly cordoned off.
  • National Grid expects to resume field work at the Metropolitan site the week of April 25th. Equipment to support that work as well as field work at other sites in the area is being stored at the Metropolitan Site.
