Weekly Update, April 15, 2011

Remedial Investigation field work commenced in late-March at the former Metropolitan Works MGP as part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)-approved Remedial Investigation Work Plan (RIWP).  The work includes the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, test pit excavations, and indoor air and sub-slab soil vapor points to gather information required to determine the nature and extent of impacts at the former Metropolitan Works MGP. 

Activities Week of April 11–April 15:

  • Completed geophysical survey at one location to pre-clear utilities for deep boring and well installation scheduled the week of April 25, 2011.

Future (two week look - ahead) activities:

  • Complete advancement and installation of two deep soil borings and monitoring wells adjacent to the Gowanus Canal.
  • National Grid expects to resume field work at the Metropolitan site the week of April 25. Equipment to support that work as well as field work at other sites in the area is being stored at the Metropolitan site.
