Weekly Update, September 10, 2010

Remedial Investigation field work commenced in late-March at the former Metropolitan Works MGP as part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)-approved Remedial Investigation Work Plan (RIWP).  The work includes the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, test pit excavations, and indoor air and sub-slab soil vapor points to gather information required to determine the nature and extent of impacts at the former Metropolitan Works MGP. 

Activities Week of September 6– September 10:

  • Site meeting with crane contractor and safety consultant to review lifting procedure to lift drill rig into work area for SB-9 work adjacent to Gowanus Canal.

Future (two week look - ahead) activities:

  • Planning for completion of one remaining boring/well location adjacent to Gowanus Canal tentatively scheduled to begin on September 13, 2010.
  • Complete SB-9 borings and well triplet adjacent to canal and complete well development.
  • Complete survey of all newly installed wells and soil borings.
